Stress Points

Jan 22, 2021

Stress is a natural response to the demand of day-to-day pressures like work, family, money, etc. In most cases, being stressed is not desirable; however short-term stresses can be beneficial particularly in performance areas like a job interview, or athletics. In these instances, the heart rate speeds up, breathing is faster, senses are heightened, and the brain is alert. But when stress lasts a long time, it may also be harmful to your health. Long term stress has been linked to chronic inflammation, gaining or losing weight, sleeplessness, headache or stomachache, and an overall lack of energy and vitality. Studies have shown that being mentally aware to the signs of your stress is the first step in controlling it. Common practices to de-stress include: exercise, hobbies, staying socially connected to friends and family, eating well balanced meals, meditation, and controlled breathing.
